Third day of the 64th State Athletics Championships at Calicut University Stadium, Tenjhipalam on Wednesday witnessed five new meet records and some notable performances. And all of them came in the junior category while the competition in senior category held simultaneously turned out to be lackluster on the penultimate day of the four-day meet.
In the girls under-16 long jump event, Sivapriya ES of Thrissur shattered the 26 year old record.
1x1 polls
The petite Sivapriya, who celebrated her 16th birthday two days ago, saved her best for the last. For, it was in her last and final attempt, the Plus-1 student who forced her to take a year out because of her under age, came up with a 5.68m, a new mark. The old record of 5.67m was set by Jetty Joseph in 1995.
"I was training hard for the past several months despite lockdown forced by Covid-19 pandemic. We're at home for the first 100 days, then our coach VV Sanooj mooted the idea of light training as we mostly do sessions on the beach. Since I do not have to attend the online classes for Plus-1 as I was found under-age I concentrated more on coaching sessions. The record is as a result of those systematic training," said a cheeky Sivapriya
Sivapriya's famed senior teammate Ancy Sojan who makes it habit of making her attendance in record books did it again without fuss in the girls under-20 event long jump with a new distance of 6.26m.
Aparna Roy of Kozhikode in girls U-20 100m hurdles posted her 12th record in her career.
